Call for Participation [Special Session] :

Digital Platforms of Sustainable Food Consumption-Production 

 

We are looking for participants for a session which we are organizing as part of the conference "Transforming consumption-production systems towards just and sustainable futures" hosted by the Sustainable Consumption Research and Action Initiative (SCORAI), the European Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ERSCP) and Wageningen University & Research (WUR), July 5-8, 2023 in Wageningen, The Netherlands.

Session title: Digital platforms and the reorganization of sustainable food consumption and production

        --> Chairs: Sanneke Kloppenburg and Sake Kruk (Wageningen        University)

This panel will focus on how platformization will drive changes to the food system. The emergence of digital platforms affords new ways of achieving sustainability outcomes in food systems through the formation of new collectivities, the marketization of new domains and activities, and the creation of digital environments that afford new types of engagement with food and with other actors in the food system. The panel focusses on how consumers and producers actively make use of these platforms, and the implications of platformization for achieving just sustainability transitions in food systems. Topics to be considered include the use of digital platforms for:

•    Organizing alternative sustainable food chains at global, regional and local levels (farmer’s markets, food boxes, direct sell)
•    Reorganizing and reforming markets for sustainable food production, e.g. through traceability platforms
•    Reducing food waste and promoting circularity
•    Collaborative consumption/food sharing/food commons
 

Abstracts can be sent to sake.kruk@wur.nl by January 8, 2022. Selected abstracts will also have to be submitted individually to the conference after they have been approved for this session by January 15.
